You’ll know by now that yesterday’s iTunes Connect downtime wasn’t in preparation for the launch of Lion as we were all hoping. Instead, Apple used the time to set up the ‘Volume Purchase Program’ for the App Store’s business customers, in addition to balancing the store’s international pricing.

New MacBook Airs could feature backlit keyboards

When Apple first added the MacBook Air to its notebook lineup back in January 2008, it had a backlit keyboard. So when all-new 11″ and 13″ flash storage models were released late last year, many people were disappointed to discover that the feature had been left out. With new MacBook Airs rumored to be released this month, at least one report suggests that backlit keyboards will return.

Two new iPhone 4 TV adverts were uploaded to Apple’s YouTube channel over the weekend. The adverts, which showcase AirPlay and FaceTime, continue their “If you don’t have an iPhone…” marketing campaign which began in March.

Last month, the London Mac User Group (LMUG) held a special event in the Wood Marylebone Pub, where 89 excited Mac users watched Steve Jobs & Co show off iOS 5, Mac OS Lion and iCloud at the WWDC Keynote. By all accounts the event was a resounding success, so it’s great to hear about their next event which will be held on the 18th of this month.

Apple to introduce 1080p movies to iTunes?

Currently, Apple offers a select number of iTunes movies to rent or buy in HD 720p format. But so far, anyone wanting to watch 1080p movies on their Mac has been left out in the cold. Steve Jobs himself has suggested we are unlikely to see Blu-ray equipped Macs. But some recent movie submissions may just pave the way for 1080p movies on iTunes.

Apple stores to prep for Lion, new MacBook Airs next week

Two separate reports today are claiming that Apple retails stores have scheduled “overnights” for next Wednesday, July 13, in order to prepare for their new product launches.
