While we have never been able to rent TV shows from iTunes or via Apple TV here in the UK, the news that Apple has quietly removed the ability in the US, is still somewhat of a surprise. Apparently the rentals option, which was turned off yesterday, wasn’t popular with customers.

I don’t need to remind you that Steve Jobs stepped down as CEO of Apple yesterday, and while those of us who are fans of the company, and Steve in particular, are saddened by the news, let’s not forget that he hasn’t said goodbye to Apple.

In a public letter addressed to the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community, Steve Jobs has tonight, resigned as the CEO of Apple. In the letter he requested that he be allowed to serve as Chairman of the Board, and that Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook be appointed as CEO in his place. Both requests have been approved by the board.

Just over a week ago, Apple released an update to OS X Lion which appeared to fix a number of bugs, including one which caused some iMacs to freeze when playing videos in Safari. Now there’s a firmware update available for some iMac models that have graphics issues.

There’s a number of features we expect to see introduced to Apple’s iPhone 5, such as an 8-megapixel camera, near-field communications technology, and possibly a dual-LED flash. But never in my wildest dreams did I imagine it would come with a ‘laser keyboard’ and a ‘holographic display’.

Late yesterday, Apple released an update to iTunes which takes it to version 10.4.1. The update, which is available via Software Update, appears to address a number of bugs, including delays opening iTunes after a sleep, and unresponsiveness whilst buying HD movies.
