It issued a note on its investor site earlier today to confirm that its live webcast will begin at 12:00 PM GMT/5:00 PM ET on the 24th of January.

Apple is reportedly planning to hold a media event at the end of this month, according to an All Things D report. But unlike other Apple events in recent years, this one won’t be held in Cupertino, California. Instead, it’ll be held in New York City and it will focus on publishing and the company’s iBooks platform.

When the second-generation Apple TV was unveiled back in September 2010, many people expected Apple to bring apps to to their set top box, but 16 months on, it still remains unclear whether or not that will ever happen. Developer Steve Troughton-Smith hopes it does, and has taken the matter into his own hands – with the help of another developer TheMudkip, he has managed to hack an Apple TV to run iOS Apps.

Recognising his services to design and enterprise, Apple’s Jonathan Ive has been awarded a knighthood in the New Year Honours list. Originally from London, Ive has worked at Apple since 1992 where he currently holds the title of senior vice president of industrial design.
