The MacBook Air wasn’t the only hardware to get a refresh today, Apple also released new Mac minis with Intel Sandy Bridge processors and high-speed Thunderbolt I/O ports. They also removed something from the previous generation – the optical disc drive! The new models, which are available to order today, range in price from £529 ($599) for the base model, to £849 ($999) for a server version.

As expected, Apple today updated their MacBook Air lineup with Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors, high-speed Thunderbolt I/O ports, and quite possibly one of the most requested features by users – backlit keyboards! The new models, which all feature Intel 3000 graphics, range in price from £849 ($999) to £1349 ($1599), and are available to order today.

Since OS X Lion’s new features were teased at WWDC back in June, it feels like the wait for Lion’s official public release has been a great deal longer than it actually has. However, as promised, Apple’s latest operating system hit the Mac App Store today, and is now available to download.

Apple have just announced financial results for their third fiscal quarter of 2011 – during which, they achieved all-time record revenue and earnings. In the announcement, which was done via a conference call, it was also confirmed that OS X Lion will be released tomorrow!

Ever since Apple confirmed that OS X Lion will be available exclusively via the Mac App Store, there has been much speculation regarding how users might troubleshoot non-booting Macs, or perform clean installs of the OS – without a physical disc. A leaked AppleCare document may just shed some light on the situation.

According to a report published today by the Korea Times, Apple are in the process of quality-testing displays for the iPad 3 in one of their China laboratories. The displays, which have been produced by Samsung and LG Electronics, are believed to be double the resolution of the current iPad.

In light of Brooklyn-based artist Kyle McDonald recently making the news for secretly taking photos of Apple Store customers for one of his artworks, I thought it would be interesting to look at other artworks that have been inspired by Apple products. The works featured range from traditional sculpture to interactive multimedia installations.

Rumors about new product launches and upgrades typically come from (alleged) Apple employees, parts manufacturers and research analysts. They don’t usually come from Apple themselves, but that appears to have happened yesterday, when images of a new Cinema Display briefly appeared on their site, and then disappeared.

As promised, Apple just issued the iOS 4.3.4 update for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, and though you won’t find any new features in this release, it does patch a vulnerability recently made public by the launch of a recent jailbreak exploit.
