Apple has today announced that downloads of OS X Mountain Lion have exceeded three million in just four days, making it the most successful OS X launch in the company’s history.

“Just a year after the incredibly successful introduction of Lion, customers have downloaded Mountain Lion over three million times in just four days, making it our most successful release ever,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

The ninth major release of OS X, Mountain Lion launched on the App Store last Wednesday for £13.99 ($19.99), bringing with it over 200 new features.

By comparison, OS X Lion, which was slightly more expensive at £20.99 ($29.99), saw downloads top one million on the first day of its release.
