Apple releases firmware updates for various MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air models

Apple has released firmware updates for various MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air models, that address what is described as a rare issue that could result in batteries with over 1000 charge cycles shutting down or ceasing to function.

Each update has the same short release note:

This update addresses a rare issue on some Apple notebooks where a battery that has accumulated more than 1000 charge cycles may unexpectedly shut down or stop functioning.

The updates should appear in the Mac App Store on affected machines. Alternatively, they can be downloaded from the following links:

Apple advises that machines should either be plugged into a power source, or have at least 25% battery charge remaining before installing the updates.
