According to a report from Bloomberg, future Macs could be powered by Apple’s own custom designed chips. The report, which cites people familiar with the company’s research, claims Apple is exploring the possibility of dropping Intel processors in favour of the same ARM-based chips used in the iPhone and iPad.

Earlier this week, 9to5Mac published a list of 24 SKUs for what are claimed to be the new iPad models that Apple are expected to announce at next Tuesday’s media event. At the time the site speculated that the list included different configurations of the iPad mini, and possibly an updated version of the full-sized iPad.

In addition to the iPad mini, Apple is expected to unveil a number of new Macs at its press event in San Jose next week, including a refreshed Mac mini, and a redesigned iMac. The Cupertino company is also expected to unveil its much-anticipated 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, and according to one report, pricing will start at $1,699 (approx. £1,061).

A report published earlier today by 9to5Mac claims that the pricing of Apple’s upcoming refreshed iMac and Mac mini lines won’t be increased by much this time around (if at all). If correct, that would pretty much rule out the possibility of a much-anticipated retina display for the new iMac.

Apple is widely expected to unveil the iPad mini at a media event planned for later this month, but according to 9to5Mac the smaller tablet won’t be the only new hardware announced. Citing “a consistently reliable source” from a major US retailer, the site claims that Apple will also use the event to announce the much-rumoured 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display.

According to a report published earlier today by AllThingsD, Apple is likely to unveil its much-anticipated iPad mini on Tuesday, the 23rd of October at an invitation-only event. The location of the event hasn’t been specified, but the report suggests it could take place at Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium.

If you decided not to pick up the iPhone 5 and save your hard-earned cash for the iPad mini, you’ll be pleased to know that the wait for Apple’s pocket-sized tablet may soon be over. According to the latest report, Apple is set to send out invitations for an iPad mini press event on October 10, which suggests the device could get its grand unveiling around October 17.
